Weezer sind wieder wer. Und das steht und fällt mit Frontmann
Rivers Cuomo. Wenn dem einfällt, er müsse jetzt das in der
Jugend verpasste Studium nachholen, dann ruht die Band halt
einfach. Die letzten Scheiben waren meiner Meinung nach auch
etwas lau und ohne rechte Trademarks, der Funke sprang nicht
sofort über. Auf der neuen Platte ist das anders: Der Opener
"Ain't Got Nobody" ist ein richtiger Kracher wie "Hash Pipe",
der zweite Song "Back To The Shack" ist beste
Radio-Ohrwurm-Schule. Eigentlich ist das Album dreigeteilt.
Erst kommen die Kracher, dann die Experimente und zum Schluss
folgt eine Trilogie nach dem Konzept des Albumtitels. Der
Schlusssong ist an die Irrfahrten des Odysseus angelehnt und
soll laut Rivers genau die Musik darstellen, die man hören muß
wenn man als Odysseus von langer Fahrt zurück kommt und alle
Männer umbringt, die sich gerade während seiner Abwesenheit an
seiner Frau vergangen haben. Starker Tobak, aber Weezer hatten
im Gegensatz zu Nickelback in ihren Texten schließlich schon
immer was zu sagen. Prodzuiert hat das Ganze Ric Ocasek, der
schon beim blauen und grünen Weezer Album mitgemischt hat.
Aufgenommen wurde die Platte an drei Sessions, was dann auch
der Dreiteilung der Scheibe entspricht. Beim nächsten Album
können sie übrigens gerne den ersten Teil mit den Ohrwürmern
gleich für eine ganze Platte durchziehen. Vielleicht kommt
nochmal ein Meilenstein dabei heraus. Witzig: Es wurde sogar
mal eine Crowdfunding-Initiative gegründet, dass Weezer die
Instrumente ruhen lassen sollten. Gut, dass die gescheitert
ist. Crowdfunding ist eh meistens für den Arsch. Entweder eine
Scheibe ist so gut, dass sie durch eine Plattenfirma unter
Vertrag genommen wird, oder eben nicht. Mit Crowdfunding wurden
schon Nickelback Konzerte möglich gemacht und aktuelle soll mit
einer Crowdfunding Kampagen ein Nickelback Konzert verhindert
werden. Wozu das, wenn man auch Weezer hören kann. Schließlich
haben sie den Collegerock ja damals miterfunden und Rivers
Cuomo war damals mit seiner Hornbrille außerdem der feuchte
Traum aller jungen Frauen mit Glucken-Beschützeinstinkt.
Zahllose Hipster kopieren heute seinen Style, und Kurt Krömer
kopiert nicht einmal mehr, er glaubt der deutsche Rivers Cuomo
zu sein. Bloß halt in nicht cool.

darauf konzentrieren, es im Rahmen einer besonderen Erfahrung
mit den Fans zu teilen. Sie planen eine US-Clubtour durch sechs
Städte, bei der sie ”Everything Will Be Alright in the End” in
voller Länge live spielen wollen. Dabei sollen sich die Fans
gern beteiligen, sie können beispielsweise die Chor-Parts des

1.Ain't Got Nobody
Hi, my name is Rivers Cuomo from Weezer. And from my new album
„Everything Will Be Alright In The End“ - this is “Ain’t Got
Nobody”, a song I wrote pretty much in one blast on the piano.
But then, the piano went out the window and we picked up the
electric guitars, because that’s what we do.

to our audience and our roots in Alternative Rock. Here we

This is “Eulogy For A Rock Band”, a song about Weezer’s
musical forefathers. See if you could figure out of who exactly
we’re singing about. We’re not gonna tell you, who, you gotta
guess!

4. Lonely Girl
So here’s “Lonely Girl”. I couldn’t figure out a good intro
for this song until I happened to hear a song by the “La Bamba”
guy, what’s his name? Whatever, that song is called “Oh Donna”
and I heard that intro and said “let’s try something like
that”.

5. I've Had It Up To Here
“This is “I've Had It Up To Here”. We love playing this song
because it has four-part-harmonies. All four of us get to sing.

6. The British Are Coming
So here is “The British Are Coming”. This is a song about our
rebellion against the imperial forces in our lives. Just like
our country, America had to rebel against the British Empire.
We as a band have to rebel. We as individuals have to rebel. So
take the inspiration and stand up for what you believe
in.

7. Da Vinci
So this is “Da Vinci”. We had a heated discussion about the
whistles in the beginning of this song. Some of us thought it
was cool, some of thought it wasn’t cool. But the whistlers won
the day. See what you think.

8. Go Away
This is “Go Away” – a song I wrote and sang with Bethany
Cosentino from BEST COAST. She has such a classic voice, so it
is such a joy to sing with her. We wanted to do a song that
sounded innocent and pure, like the songs of the 60ies girl
groups.

9. Cleopatra
This is “Cleaopatra”, which features “the return of the
harmonica”. Not heard since, I believe, Weezer’s first song on
their first album “My Name Is Jonas”. Soo fun to play the
harmonica again…

10. Foolish Father
This is “Foolish Father”, a powerful song for me to write
because I had always written songs from the perspective of a
bitter youth: Now I am a father myself, so I see the parents’
side of the story and am a little more ready to forgive. And
that’s the message of the song.
11. The Futurescope Trilogy:
04:13 – 04:54
a)The Waste Land
This is “The Waste Land”, the first part of the trilogy that
closes out “Everything Will Be Alright in The End”. It is an
instrumental inspired by that place an artist finds himself at
when he’s sold his soul chasing after “page views” and “clicks”
and “likes”. He’s lost touch with his inspiration. But as you
can hear from the triumphant tone of the finale, he rediscovers
his passion and makes his way out of life, “The Waste
Land”.

b)Anonymous
This is “Anonymous”, the second part of the trilogy, called
“The Futurescope Trilogy”, which closes out “Everything Will Be
Alright In The End”. I wrote it on piano but quickly picked up
the lead guitar and there’re many lead guitar tracks on this
song. It’s a blast for us to play this live.

c) Return To Ithaka
This is “Return To Ithaka”, the third and final part of the
trilogy; “The Futurescope Trilogy”, at the end of “Everything
Will Be Alright In The End” and it’s also the very last piece
of music on the record. This song was inspired by Homer’s
Odyssee, Odysseus has been lost at sea for many years, he
finally makes his way back home only to discover that his house
has been taken over by rival kings and princes. They’re eating
all his food and trying to sleep with his wife. His wife
doesn’t know if he’s still alive but she’s stayed faithful to
him, fought off these guys for years. So he storms back into
his house, kills all these other guys – and this is the music
that I imagine he would be playing when he does that. “Return
to Ithaka”.
